Savory Breakfast Pop Tarts 

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cold water

For the filling:

  • 4 large eggs, scrambled
  • 1/2 cup cooked ground beef
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the egg wash:

  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the cold water, mixing until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into rectangles, approximately 3×4 inches.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the scrambled eggs, cooked ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the filling onto half of the dough rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges. Top with the remaining dough rectangles and press the edges together with a fork to seal.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and water to make the egg wash. Brush the tops of the pop tarts with the egg wash.
  8. Place the pop tarts on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
