Restaurant-Style Beef and Broccoli

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and sesame oil to make the sauce. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with the minced garlic and grated ginger. Mix well to coat the beef.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef to the hot skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until tender-crisp.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli mixture, stirring to coat everything evenly.
  6. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the beef and broccoli are heated through.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat and serve the beef and broccoli hot over cooked rice.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
