Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
For the filling:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
For the icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, salt, and yeast. Set aside.
- In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, heat the milk, water, and butter until warm (about 120-130°F or 50-55°C). The butter doesn’t need to melt completely.
- Add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients, along with the egg. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. You may not need to use all of the flour.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 3-5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Roll the dough into a 12×9-inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the buttered dough.
- Starting from one of the long edges, roll the dough up tightly into a log.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the log into 12 equal-sized rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before drizzling with the icing.
- Serve the cinnamon rolls warm and enjoy!
- These quick cinnamon rolls are perfect for a weekend breakfast or brunch, and they’re sure to become a family favorite!
