Ingredients:
– 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
– 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– Cornmeal, for dusting (optional)
Directions:
- In a small bowl, combine the active dry yeast, warm water, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the salt and olive oil.
- Add the frothy yeast mixture to the bowl with the salt and olive oil.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the bowl, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release the air bubbles.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a round circle, about 12 inches in diameter.
- If using a pizza stone, sprinkle it with cornmeal to prevent sticking. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto the pizza stone or a greased baking sheet.
- Add your favorite pizza toppings to the dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
