Ingredients:
For the Sesame Tofu:
- 1 block (14-16 ounces) extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking oil for frying
For the Broccoli:
- 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon water
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Serving:
- Cooked rice
- Sliced green onions (optional)
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions:
Prepare the Tofu:
- Drain the tofu and place it between two clean kitchen towels or paper towels.
- Press the tofu by placing a heavy object (like a skillet or cans of food) on top for about 20-30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into cubes or rectangles.
Marinate the Tofu:
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, cornstarch, honey or maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame seeds, salt, and pepper.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and gently toss to coat.
- Let the tofu marinate for at least 15-20 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
Cook the Tofu:
- Heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated tofu cubes to the skillet in a single layer, reserving any excess marinade.
- Cook the tofu for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Pour any remaining marinade into the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
- Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
Prepare the Broccoli:
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Add broccoli florets to the skillet along with soy sauce, sesame oil, water, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well to coat the broccoli in the sauce.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender but still crisp.
Serve:
- Serve the sesame tofu and broccoli over cooked rice.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and red pepper flakes if desired.
- Enjoy your delicious Sesame Tofu & Broccoli!
